Water History didactic path
Arolla/Val d’Arolla
The Histoire d'eau trail is accessible from panel 1 to 8. The rest of the route is closed due to bad weather. Thank you for your understanding.
The History of Water didactic trail, which retraces the epic story of the construction of the Bertol tunnels, aims to honour the memory of the thousands of men who contributed, in the last century, to the construction of the Grande Dixence S.A. scheme in the Arolla valley and to the impounding of the highest gravity dam in the world. Its aim is also to shed light on the installations, still visible or underground, which were used in this formidable epic.
The route is marked by 11 explanatory panels on the work carried out between 1951 and 1963.
How to get there:
- Postbus: www.postauto.ch
- By car: from Sion, exit the A9 motorway at Sion-Est, take the Route d'Hérens to Arolla (about 1 hour's drive)
