Saint-Martin - Ossona - Footbridge

Set off on a varied and panoramic hike linking Saint-Martin to Ossona, including the iconic crossing of the Grande Combe footbridge. This 8.6 km route, which can be completed in around 3 hours and 30 minutes, is of intermediate difficulty and involves approximately 660 m of elevation gain.

The trail begins with a descent through meadows and open landscapes, leading to the hamlet of Ossona, a true agritourism gem of the region. Rich in history, this site offers an ideal break to enjoy the authentic atmosphere of the alpine pastures and local heritage. A magnificent open view of the Euseigne pyramids accompanies hikers for almost the entire first half of the route.

Crossing the footbridge is one of the highlights of the hike, offering a unique experience and spectacular views over the surrounding valley. The trail then continues on mostly flat terrain overlooking the Borgne gorges, with views of a waterfall and the Veisivis peaks. The ascent back to Saint-Martin passes through open areas and sections of forest. Be sure to bring a cap, water, and sunscreen.

Accessible to experienced walkers, this loop is appreciated for its diversity, its balance between effort and enjoyment, and the richness of the landscapes it crosses. A wonderful immersion in nature, heritage, and adventure in the heart of the Val d’Hérens.
