The Tour of Historical Villages in the Upper Val d'Hérens
Starting from Evolène, this loop can be done in either direction. If you begin by following the river towards Les Haudères, you'll start on flat terrain, perfect for warming up! Nature will accompany you all the way to the village of Les Haudères, where you can already stop for a bite or take a break in a cozy café or typical restaurant. Take the time to wander through the charming little streets or fill up your water bottle for the ascent to the village of La Forclaz.
After crossing a bridge near a playground and tennis courts, you'll simply follow the trail through the forest, which is pleasantly shaded in the afternoon, and always follows the Borgne de Ferpècle river, heading towards La Forclaz. Once you reach the top, a stunning panorama and a view of the Dent Blanche await you.
Continue your journey towards the villages of La Sage and Villaz. Don't forget to stop at the St. Christopher Chapel, offering a magnificent view of the entire valley below. It's the perfect spot for a contemplative break!
You'll descend after passing Villaz, taking a small rocky path towards Evolène, and thus return to the village of Evolène.
Warning:
Due to recent bad weather, the section between Les Haudères and Evolène, along the river (the Borgne), is currently impassable due to severe flooding. However, you can still take the main road or catch the bus to complete your route.
This route allows you to discover the beautifully preserved historical villages of the Upper Val d'Hérens, which bear witness to the traditional way of life in the mountains of Valais.
