Patrouille des Glaciers

The Patrouille des glaciers is an exceptional event that takes place every two years at the end of April. Connecting Zermatt to Verbier via Arolla for the Z race and Arolla to Verbier for the A race, it is a unique challenge for the thousands of participants, both professionals and amateurs.
The village of Arolla is a central point of this race. For the participants of the Z race, it constitutes a key passage that of the halfway point. For the participants of the A race it is the starting point of this fantastic race.
The event is organized by the Swiss Army, which will have one of its bases in Arolla and will transform the village into a nerve center for operations during the race.
Exceptional event, exceptional measures: Exceptional event, exceptional measures: The road leading to Arolla will be closed from 12:00 on Tuesday 26 and Friday 29 April. All inhabitants of Arolla and owners of residences have a badge issued by the Commune to be able to circulate freely (owners of secondary residences must apply to the Commune to have their pass). People who have booked accommodation in Arolla must present themselves with their hotel or flat reservation.
The post bus will run normally.
From 5pm (time of the last post bus) to 10pm, the army will provide a shuttle service between the Coop roundabout and Arolla.
From 10pm to 7am, two buses will shuttle between Evolène and Arolla (approximately every half hour)
Please note that these shuttles are intended for spectators and refreshers.
For the Patrollers, buses will run from Sion, with stops in Evolène and Les Haudères.
All the information will be given to the runners at the material control in Sion.
The Arolla yurt will be open from 2am on April 28th and 30th.
The Fontanesse 1 ski lift will exceptionally be open from midnight to 5:30 am on race nights.
