The Vallon de Réchy

This unspoiled paradise is one of the most beautiful little jewels in central Valais. Imagine a small, perfectly preserved valley, with no roads or buildings, offfering unlimited possibilities for hiking and wildlife watching as well as admiring an exceptionally rich and rare flora. Resting on the Sex Blanc cliff, nestled between the Val d'Anniviers and the Val d'Hérens, the Vallon de Réchy sits happily between forests, meadows and clearings dotted with old chalets. The Bas Vallon divides into two ample faces and narrows into a V, allowing the waters of the Réche to run faster and wilder before cascading down to the plain. The altitude and humidity permit firs, ashes and larches to thrive. The Vallon Moyen is marked by a barrier of rocks which closes the valley. Here the trees have disappeared: vast plateaus hosting a series of moorlands and alpine meadows, all of which are strewn with beautifully coloured flowers, lead to the Ar du Tsan through winding paths and marshes. The Haut Vallon is home to eagles, snow partridges and kestrels. Here nothing grows, the soils are frozen deep, and it would seem there is nothing more to see. Nothing more, bare as if life were coming to an end or to its origins. Uninterrupted spaces and horizons. No flowers. Stripped. Our tour stops at the Lac du Louché, located at the foot of La Maya. The water here is crystalline, it is a magical place of rest and contemplation.
